HUNTING/FISHING REPORT
SUMMER 2024
HUNTING REPORT
Turkey season has come and gone and was a pretty slow season on the club. A few birds were heard throughout season, but only one harvest was made this season. Efforts are being made to improve turkey populations at the club through habitat improvement via perscribed burns, spring/summer food plots. and other activities. Please note, if you witness any poult (young turkey) sightings on club, please let Russell Taylor know. Deer season is right around the corner. Some members are starting to run cameras and assess this years crop. In spring of 2024, several members created new mineral sites across the club (25+/- sites) to assist in development and health of our deer herd. As mentioned in the turkey portion of this update, spring plots were established this year to bolster natural vegitation and browse and provide the deer herd with additional nutrtion. So far, the deer have kept the plots mowed down as we enter the summer months. As members begin to prep for deer season, please be mindful of a few things: 1) Snakes, ticks, and other critters are very active through summer months. Be cautious of these critters as you're out scouting for that next great spot for this season. 2) Use harnesses and fall lines when hanging or adjusting tree stands. Be smart, protect yourself. 3) Replace all straps on stands. Weather and constant tension on tree stand straps will cause them to lose their integrity over time. Replace your straps annually to stay safe and avoid injury. 4) Be respectful. If it is not your stand, camera, feeder, etc. don't mess with it. If you feel somebody else's property poses a risk to you or other members, please contact Russell Taylor.
FISHING REPORT
Lake Green - Spring was favorable at Lake Green for crappie, though most caught were on the smaller side. 1,000 catfish were added to the lake this spring and multiple feeders were set up to provide supplemental nutrition for the fish.
Lake Thomas - Best fishing this far has been for bass with a few bass being caught around the 5 lb range. Duckweed has taken over the lower end of the lake, but fishing opportunities are still available among a majority of lake. Top water and texas rigs are popular for bass right now. The bream bite has been steady this summer with members catching pretty nice stringers full. Lake Thomas has been limed twice and probably will be once more this year. Another draw down is scheduled later this year to help eliminate the invasive grasses growing in the lake. Remember, do not throw any fish back in Lake Thomas except bass in excess of 3 lbs. Take all other fish home and enjoy or place in alligator lakes or river run.
Alligator Lake - A report from someone who used a live scope in this lake showed very few fish. Stocking this lake with fish from other lakes would be very helpful. Although the fish activity appeared low here, a 5+ pound bass was caught during the fishing rodeo at the 2nd annual Club Day in May.
